Harry W. Grunke

Transcription of obituary:

Harry Walter Grunke, resident of Flandreau from 1905 to 1932, died last Wednesday morning at the age of 40 years at the hospital at Ada, Min., in which city he has made his home since leaving here. Mr. Grunke had been suffering for a long time for ulcers of the stomach, and for three weeks had been confined in the hospital.

When his condition became critical his mother, Mrs. A. Grunke of this city, was advised of the fact, but though she left immediately for Ada she was not able to reach there before her son passed away.

The body was brought to Flandreau Thursday afternoon and funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the Lutheran church with Rev. H.O. Belgium conducting the service. Interment was made in Union cemetery.

Harry W. Grunke was born at Bancroft, Neb., on April 3, 1897, and he was baptized in the Evangelical Lutheran church in West Point, Neb. He came to Flandreau with other members of the family in March, 1905.

On November 26, 1931, he was married to Mabel Roark o Flandreau, after which the family took up their residence at Ada, Minn., where they have since resided. To this union was born one son, Donald LeRoy.

Mr. Grunke is survived by his widow and son, by his mother, four brothers and six sisters. The brothers and sister are Arthur, of Crosby, N.D.; Rudolph, of Cheyenne, Wyo., Ed and Raymond, of Flandreau; Mrs. John Findlay of St. Louis, Mo.; Mrs. Harlan Doten of Stewartville, Minn.; Mrs. J.C. Bauer and Mrs. Arnold Johnson, of Omaha; Mrs. E.F. King, of St. Paul, and Miss Lucille Grunke, of Flandreau. His father preceded him in death in 1926.

Mrs. Doten was the only one of the out-of-twon members of the family who were able to reach here. Others were hindered by storm conditions.

The below are the obituaries for Harry's wife, Mabel.
