Whenever a family member is pregnant, or a baby is born, or even whenever disheartening news hits, I often find myself to be the one in the family to spread the news. When it is good news, I have trouble holding back from hitting those buttons on my phone to send text messages.

The shepherds in the fields when the angels gave them the good news and what did they do right away? “When the angels went away from them into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let us go over to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has made known to us.” And they went with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby lying in a manger. And when they saw it, they made known the saying that had been told them concerning this child.” Luke 2: 15-17. The shepherds lost no time. They traveled immediately to verify with their own eyes what they had heard. When they saw it, they took off to tell everyone the good news.

With today’s technology, I do not have to travel to share good news. I do not even have to wait for the mailman to deliver a handwritten note or card. I do not even have to wait for someone to open up an email inbox. Almost everyone I know has a smart phone and within a few moments, I can get the news out. It makes me consider why I do not utilize this same technology to share so quickly what Jesus does for me. That is just something for me to gnaw on and file in the back of my head for the opportune moment.
