Matthew 7:12-14 THE GOLDEN RULE

I love that The Golden Rule is so often quoted by so many people who do not realize they are quoting the Bible. It is paraphrased, "treat others as you would want to be treated."  This is a summary of the verses above about judging others.  This is a "rule of life." It is a rule-of-thumb to keep in the back of the mind daily. I ask myself, "what do you wish someone would do for you," and then that is what I should go out and do for someone else.  It does not matter if I ever get what I wish, but only that I give without expecting anything in return.  There is a difference between not breaking the laws and in actually being a doer of the Word.  Love is an action.  Reaching out to others is an action.  The fundamental law of matter is attracted to all other matter in the universe by Newton might be applied to the boomerang effect of doing to others as you would have them do to you.

 

The gate is wide that leads to destruction and it is easy to get through, but the way to heaven is narrow and only through Jesus Christ (the gate) and not so easy (rather it is hard).  This gate leads to "life," that being eternal life with Christ.  There are two destinations and two gates.  There is a right road and a wrong road.  Do not take the easy way out or the well-traveled road. Few will enter the gates of heaven.

 

We all know this golden rule, then why is it so hard to follow? Sometimes I think it is the introvert in me that keeps me from reaching out and rather tucked into my own little corner. However, that is the whole point of avoiding the "easy way out." It is always easier to let things go and keep to oneself than to reach out and love others. Romans 7:15, "I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do."
