Ecclesiastes 9:11-12

TheĀ  swift, strong, wise, and intelligent do not always win the battle which seems to leave things up to chance. I love analogies and there are two in verse 12, one about fish and one about birds compared to "children of man" (not children of God) who "suddenly" fall for the temptation of evil. Even in resisting temptation we do not know the time when we will fail. No one can resist temptation forever. There is nothing more important than faith for it is through faith that we are instantly forgiven and unsnared. I should not depend on the gifts God has given me, but rather depend on Jesus to save me from evil.
