Psalm 51:1-4

Ash Wednesday February 22, 2023

In this graphic I focused on the journey from death to life and the journey from life to death, comparing the two.

In this graphic, as I often like to do, I focused on separating the scripture into the things I do and the things God does. It is rather revealing the differences between the two actions. Then I focused on the meaning of those action words I pulled out from the scripture.

In this graphic I focused on my baptism as a child and my baptism now as it related to tears of sadness and tears of happiness. When I attended Ash Wednesday service and ashes were placed on my head, an extra line was added and I wanted to document that: "You are dust, and to dust you shall return, but from dust you also shall be raised."

These are some notes I had taken from another time in that my Catechism references these verses.

51:1

Catechism: What kinds of prayer do we find in the Bible? Confession, in which we acknowledge our sins to God.

Catechism: How do I prepare for confession? This is one of the penitential psalms. My prayer: "I am sorry for my wrongdoings and will need Your strength to turn away from doing them again.  Thank you for loving me, Lord, a poor, miserable sinner."

51:1-2:

Catechism: And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. What do we ask for in this petition? We ask that our Father in heaven would gracious forgive our sins for Christ's sake. Christ came to give you something, not to condemn you.

51:1-4:

Catechism: First part of confession: we confess our sins, that is, acknowledge our sins. We admit that our sins offended God and are deserving of His eternal punishment.
