The Chrismon - Iota-Chi

OUR LIFE IN CHRIST story: Through Holy Baptism, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, we are brought to faith in Jesus our Lord and Savior, who redeemed us, by His death on the cross, through His Word, and the Sacrament of Holy Communion, and in regular worship we are strengthened until that great day when we shall rise to eternal life with the King of Kings.

This Chrismon is called the Iota-Chi. Remember in the introduction it is mentioned that we could have a monogram for Jesus Christ that was J.C. That's what this Chrismon is-a monogram for Jesus Christ, only it uses Greek letters. We just learned that our letter 'X', the "Chi," is the first greek letter for Christ. The letter that looks like our letter 'I' is also the first Greek letter in the word Jesus. 'I' for Jesus, 'X' for Christ. Or if you say it in Greek letters-Iota for Jesus, Chi for Christ. That's Iota-Chi.

"Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father." Philippians 2:9-11
