The Chrismon - Crown of Thorns

OUR LIFE IN CHRIST story: Through Holy Baptism, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, we are brought to faith in Jesus our Lord and Savior, who redeemed us, by His death on the cross, through His Word, and the Sacrament of Holy Communion, and in regular worship we are strengthened until that great day when we shall rise to eternal life with the King of Kings.

The crown of thorns is a passion symbol. A passion symbol is one that represents anything from the time Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey until he was buried. The crown of thorns reminds us of our suffering Savior. The crown is shown with the three nails that were used to hang Jesus to the cross--two for his hands and - - one for his feet.

"They stripped him and put a scarlet robe on him, and then twisted together a crown of thorns
and set it on his head. They put a staff in his right hand and knelt in front of him and mocked him." I Matthew 27:28-29.
