The Fun Extras - Set Two

24. Font Resources

Oh, the places to go to download fonts!  Are you a font lover?

Here are your comments!

I do love fonts but had a bit of an overload at one stage - I downloaded sooooooooooooooo many fonts, it was just silly. I'm a bit more restrained now! Love all the links, really helpful. Mole

thanks hummie, have printed off the list. lynnedbears

Great list to have! I was truly a font addict when paper scrapping, as it was nice to journal and then print off onto c/s and choose whatever font I liked! Since digiscrapping I've d/led about 3 new fonts, LOL, if that! BUT! All the classes and challenges I'm doing here are getting me looking through my fonts for each LO...esp. now I have them large and can actually see the examples, LOL!!! (Thank you!) I'm amazed and very pleased with what I do have, even though they're installed and I shouldn't have done this, LOL, but never mind!!!! I will now have to sit on my hands to stop me clicking those links, LOL!!!!! Bernie x

Thanks for the great list, Hummie! I also like receiving font packs via email from the yahoo group, fontpacks at (link removed - pirate source) Thanks for the link to NexusFont! I tried it and it works great, but I wouldn't call it intuitive initially. After you install the program, it lists a "Library" (which are the installed Windows fonts and a sample group) and "Sets" (which is a way you can group your fonts). Most things work by right-clicking. Once you understand this, this program is very easy to use. You right click "Library" to add a "Group" or "Set," then right click "Group" to add a "Folder." Alternatively, there is a plus sign in the bottom right corner of the program that you can click to add a "Group," "Set" or "Folder." "Set" is used to place individual fonts into its own folder without actually moving or destroying the original files. So you can place fonts into a set from different folders and you can delete sets without worrying about losing the files. That's how you get the fonts you want temporarily installed into your programs. As long as NexusFont is open, everything is automatically loaded into your programs. It worked for Word and Photoshop (both were already open before I launched NexusFont). And I like that NexusFont gives you a count of how many fonts are in the folders. By clicking the Group name, you can see all the fonts in that group or you can click on the individual folders to see the fonts in that folder. You can "permanently" install fonts by clicking on the ones you want, right clicking the font sample box, and select "Install." You have a choice of copying the files to the system fonts folder, leaving the files where they are, or copy the files to a folder you designate. When you install a font a "Windows" symbol appears next to the font name so you know it's installed. You can uninstall fonts by clicking them, right clicking the font sample box, and select "Uninstall." There are also icons that you can click at the top of the program screen to "Install" and "Uninstall." You can also tag the fonts with a name you designate. Select the fonts you want tagged with the same name, right click the font sample box, and select "Edit Tags." You can tag it with multiple categories by separating the tag names with a comma. Other features of NexusFont are: 1. You can right click a font, select "Charmap" and a window with the character map opens. There is also an icons on the top of the program screen to click for "Charmap." 2. You can search for duplicate fonts by adding the folders you want searched, go to Tools/Find Duplicate Fonts (or CTRL-D).
3. You can download a file called NexusTransLang to translate files. 4. You can change the color, size, style (bold, italic, etc.) by clicking the icons on the right side of the tool bar. Overall, I like this program - although I would only launch it after my main programs are launched. Otherwise, it may take too long for the main programs to load. g_robb53

Great list of resources, plus I am going to try the NexusFont so that I do not have to install a font or try to remember to uninstall it later. ccynden

I use Kevin and Amanda's font website as well as Lettering Delights, which is my favorite. I love their alphabets, since I can usually find one in my theme. I went to the Scrappinfun site, and downloaded a few, since I really like scripts. Thanks, Hummie! Lullubelle

awesome resource, Thanks. 204cg

Thanks Hummie. Now i have new places to look. I have a favorite, for handwriting fonts, that is not on the list--Kevin and Amanda. What i've linked here is the link to their TOU. I prominently display their blog button on my blog, happily! They have some awesome handwriting fonts.

Thanks again for the wonderful resources. And also for the reminder that we--designers--always need to check for TOUs before using fonts for alphas--sometimes it just ain't allowed! lovinlifegurl

Thanks for this great list which I will ceertainly come back to when I want a new font. I will also check out Nexus font as I am desperate for a font manager - cant get the Font Thing to work on my new laptop a1bjm

Wow that's quite a list! I added a bookmark to my toolbar so I can find it when I need it! newenglandmomma

Thanks for the list, Hummie. I have been collecting fonts but I don't want to install them all. In the past I used the "Font Thing" on my old machine. Sad, it's not for Win 7. Now I am learning how to use NexusFont. DeeAnneK

I LOVE fonts!! I'm Always looking for a place to get them. I'll be making a list of all of these Thank you hummie!!! Willogem

I love fonts I need to check out these sources, I need som more script fonts. I do tend to have a few favorites. I also confess that so many fonts I have on my computer look an awful lot alike! I love fonts. Prefer them to alphas, actually. I had mostly used DaFont, so thanks for the extended list. Tip: there are so many almost identical fonts preinstalled on my computer, that I make a file on my hard drive called 'deleted fonts stored here' and then go to my control panel/fonts and drag all those unused, boring ones into this folder, then delete them in the fonts folder. Odds are I will never want to re-instate them, but I never throw anything away!!! Now I don't have to scroll through so much I don't use. However, some of the fonts in the file are non-deletable. Ah well, just makes the font list a little longer to scroll through Nanscraps

Yes, I love fonts. I have a HUGE collection. AMarieT

I love new fonts. Just gotta remember to use the ones I don't have permanently loaded Maggie
