77. Types of Kits

Do you tend to buy a certain type of kit?

What is your favorite type of kit?

Here are your comments!

I love nature kits - they're so soothing and refreshing. grobb53

I tend to go for the earthy kits and theme ones Dawn Miner

I love the fantasy kits but I don't always get to use them! I tend to buy kits that focus on kids' themes as I scrap my grandkids all the time. Belle33

I also love the Fantasy kits, I love all the Posers and fantasy Jules

I am now leaning toward the kits with doodles in them. I'm afraid of Fantasy kits...they scare me...don't know why but they do. plumbgone

I have no particular preference, although I am not a fan of fantasy kits. I tend to like bright, colorful kits related to things that are familiar, like buttons, ribbons, all kinds of elements and backgrounds that blend well with my photos. ccynden

I really am draen to more earth tones. I don't do well with bright colors. More muted is how I tend to go. I know Hummie is the same way lol Dawn

I love rich colors, great ribbons and lace, lots of flowers. In a word, the romantic ones, I guess. Craftmomma

ooh this is quite hard, esp. at the moment as I'm obsessing about altered art, LOL I still go back to elegant quality kits though, such a Ctreative Victorian Designs produces. I also love kits such as you'd find at Digiscrapping.ch of Digital-Crea...more flowing and free if you like. Plus of course the sheer artiness & absolute quality of kits from ViVa Artistry! I guess I'm a but eclectic nowadays, LOL However I know what I don't like, LOL - cutesy!!! I really admire papery-looking kits, but find them harder to use just now Bernie x

I like bright, cheerful ones mostly for the grandchildren, but I like the softer, more muted ones for heritage and some other themes JanetMM

I love lots of different elements to choose from, flowers, animals, colours & good variety in the kit Scrapper

I LOVE realistic kits---you know real trees, rocks, animals, or chairs, doors, shelves, etc. I also love fantasy kits. NancyP

I like realistic as well. Real flowers etc. I don't do well with heavily patterned papers though. JodyT

I'm liking heritage type kits at the moment. Used to be i'd only buy CU, but i'm having too much fun learning to make my own! I also like doodle kits. Lovinlifegurl

My favorites are rather generic in theme, things I can use for almost any occaision. I'm girly, so they have to have lots of pretty flowers and ribbon and lace is always a plus. I choose based on color combinations mostly. I like them rich and pure and feminine. I don't like browns or anything like it---too boring. I also don't like muted or grayed colors much. The layouts I've done that I like the lest have grayed or dark, grungy colors. I also have a couple where the colors looked like they're almost completely faded out and I don't like those either. Color and mood speak to me most when choosing a kit. Craftmomma

This is a hard one because tastes change and themes become fashionable. The only definite thing about my choices of kits is that I prefer muted and pastel tones rather than bright ones. a1bjm

Bright colors, and kits with plaids. 204cg

I guess my favorite kits would be those that contain my comfortable colors, brown, black, blue, green… Justamommie

My favorite colors and nature and boy kits. Tammyshere
My favorite kits are those with a lot of realistic elements - especially vintage - i scrap mostly family history. i am not fond of kits that are mostly paper flowers, but i do like kits with "real" flowers in them - just not too many. i like kits with paper fasteners in them - paper clips, binder clips, tape, screws & bolts. i like the "steampunk" look, as well because it fits so nicely with vintage. But, i also like artsy kits. i don't care for kits that are "cartoony" - i like the more realistic look to elements. Jayleigh3

I love all type of kits, of colors, and I love working in all styles. No boxes, no bounds. AMarie

It depends on what I'm scrapping. I generally like kits that are not too busy but have attractive colours and elements. I like muted & pastel colours, but I like brighter ones for pages which have photos with bright colours ie red, green, yellow & blue Maggie

Digital Scrapbooking Sketch Resources (FE 34)
I have seen sketches, but I have not considered them because truthfully I do not know how. Maybe after checking out the resources, I may get the nerve to attempt to try my hand at them. Thanks for the resources. ccynden

OK, I'm going to give away my deep dark secret! I subscribe to Scrap Girls and get their newsletter. They have fabulous layouts in there! I save every newsletter in a folder and when I need inspiration I go to their past newsletters and just look through them. I never scraplift a layout exactly---I want it to be my own, but I get wonderful ideas. I may take ideas from 4 or 5 different layouts and combine them into my own layout. My second source is to just simply go through galleries. My favorites are Digi Scrap Addicts and Digi Shop Talk. I don't use sketches much--guess I just don't think about them, but I will certainly check out these resources. Thanks for the list, Hummie!! NancyP

I have only used a "sketch" once before... and that was the layout of the cover of the creative memories magazine. I used that for a layout I made for a friend of mine... who sells creative memories Dawn

Thank you for all these great resources! I draw upon anything and everything when I'm in a layout slump. I'll look at scenery, at people's clothes, at buildings. When something catches my eye, I'll figure out why I like it and use that for my inspiration. g_robb53

wow great resources, I will have to try a LO from a sketch next time I need help Dawn Miner

Wonderful resource list Hummie! Thank you for all the work to put this together and for sharing. KathyJ

Thank you for these! I tell you, when I ws a paper scrapper, I was addicted to those things!!! Had a big folder full of them! I've used them a few times since starting digi scrapping...have had some in challenges for instance. I do like using them for inspiration and a jump-off point. It's great you keep these records!!! Bernie x

The only time I've used sketches for layouts has been for challenges, but these are great resources and I'll be checking them out since my creativity seems to be in a slump. Thanks! PammyJ

I've tended not to use them, but I'll think about it in the future when I'm in the need of inspiration. JanetMM
I used to use sketches when doing paper but don't tend to need them now. Things just sort of come to me.... lynnedbears

I've only used sketches for one of the challenges here in my scrapping goals. I do like to use templates when I can't seem to design my LO and especially if I have a lot of photos on one page, which I usually do! Hummie got me hooked to vi.sualize.us and that's where I go to for some inspiration and to store LO's I like. Belle33

I have only ever used sketches as part of a challenge, but I know some people find them helpful as a springboard for their mojo! Mole

I've often used sketches for paper scrapping so will definitely be looking at these sites for inspiration, thanks Hummie Janen

Some of my best LO's start from a sketch, but when I get finished, seldom does the finished product look anything like the original sketch. I love sketches - yanks me out of my "boring box." Without a sketch, I tend to create the same LO over and over again. LOL cats4jan

Never thought of using them and didn't know there were so many places to find them. Thanks again. Cheers Eileen etw36

Thanks for another great resource list. I amazed at all the help available through Hummies World! tlcmom

Thanks for another great resouse, I have never used a sketch. Jules

I think because I feel I am still a beginner I like the idea of templates better than using a sketch. I haven't used a template from time to time but I usually just come up with my LO's. Possibly if I use them more often they may improve my own designs as I see how LO's are designed. April

Wow ,Its amazing what you find when you type in one little word that you see and don't know what it means!!!!!!! Thanks for the sketch list it's wonderful… Spenny

Thanks for the list, Hummie. I'll have to go check some of them out! lulubelle

Thanks for spending the time to put this together. a1bjm

Challenges inspire me, but i love love love sketches. One resource that i do not see here is Scrapbooks, etc, which has HUNDREDS of sketches, over 300 for square (12x12, but any square size would work) alone. Check it out here. Loved free scrapbook ssketches dot com! Thanks for the resources! lovinlifegurl

Right again, young lady, good souce for motoviation 204cg

Hmm, never heard of sketches before. Guess I will have to check this out! Thanks! JustAMommie

Oh no another lot of links for me to get lost in (I mean time wise), cant wait to look at them all. I will put this on my agenda for tonight when the TV is boring me. When I run out of oomph, I sometimes reach for a template and sometimes I go looking through gallery's on different sites. Often this will inspire me. Sometimes I start with an idea from a laout I have seen, but in the end it rarely ends up looking much linke it. JodyT

I like templates better than sketches. I've used sketches a couple of times, but not often. Tammyshere

Since I'm new to all of this, I have to admit...I've never heard of sketches. I'm very curious now. I get my inspirations from gallery's but always end up doing my own thing, only because I don't know how some of it is done yet. Thanks for the links Hummie, this in itself has inspired me to make sketches of my own & save for later uses. Willogem

I actually have a couple of books of scrapbook sketches I bought when I was first learning to digiscrap. However, once I learned to use templates, I have not really paid attention to the sketches anymore. I have used them to build my own templates once or twice, but, again, the premade templates get me better results. It is good to have this list of resources, though, when I am in the mood to poke around for ideas. Nanscraps
