These layout suggestion and layout re-do's were done as a part of Course 1, Lesson 8A, on Visual Weight. I invite you to be brave and participate by senidng me a layout. It is how I learned to grow in skills, with others giving me suggestions.

1. contrast - I can read your text okay. Your photo is a bit dark and your papers are dark too, so there really isn't any contrast. However, I feel your photo could easily be much lighter using a lesson in Course 2 (in the beginning of the class somewhere) on adjusting the levels. Then it would be bright and there would be more contrast.

2. size - the photo is certainly large and that is the main visual weight principal working for the photo.

3. color - not applicable.

4. shape - not applicable.

5. texture - not applicable.

6. isolation -not applicable.

7. value - not applicable.

8. balance - okay

I would also say that you applied a bevel instead of a drop shadow on all of the layers (except the ribbon layer which appears to have no style). Try going back and finding the drop shadows instead of the bevels. This is a common mistake and even I did it when I first started scrapping.
