Christmas Poinsettias

12/17/2013

This advent, sanctuaries everywhere are overflowing with Christmas Poinsettias. Folks enjoy them in their homes. Have you ever thought about the meaning of a bounty of flowers in the sanctuary? I see a bounty of flowers as an overflowing of the glory of God. "The glory of the Lord filled the temple." (Ezekiel 43:5 & 1 King 8:11) What a wonderful way to glorify, honor, exalt, adore, worship, and praise our Lord Jesus Christ. Enjoy the following scriptures relating to the glory of God. Think on them as you worship in your sanctuary this season of the Christ Child.

1. Praise for God overflows from his creation. Poinsettias are a fantastic display of God's craftsmanship. An abundance of them magnifies the glory of God. God's glory never changes, but a display of his craftsmanship magnifies it, transforming our perception of his glory. "Splendor and majesty are before him; strength and glory are in his sanctuary." Psalm 96.6

2. Jesus came to us as a babe in the manger, completely human, yet completely God, full of glory. "The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth." John 1:14

3. The angels proclaimed the glory of God to the Shepherds in the fields after Jesus' birth. "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men." Luke 2:14

4. Advent is the time of preparing for the Lord's second coming, when His glory will be totally revealed. "When the son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will set on his throne in heavenly glory." Matthew 25:31

5. We can give God the glory in all ways. Always ask yourself, "Is this action glorifying God." or "How can I honor God through this." Declare God's character through your deeds. "So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God." 1 Corinthians 12:31

6. He is the resource of all things. He deserves to be glorified. "For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be the glory forever! Amen." Romans 11:36

7. Worship brings glory to Him. Give Him the praise due his name. "All the nations you have made will come and worship before you, O Lord: they will bring glory to your name." Psalm 86:9

8. "I love the house where you live, O Lord, the place where your glory dwells." Psalm 26:8
