SCHNELL, DOUGLAS, AND HARBISON GENEALOGY

This genealogy line are the ancestors of my Granny, Lucille Jane Schnell, who married James Wright, and when he died, married Sherman Treadway. Lucille was my Great-Grandma who I was blessed to have in my life until I was in college. I wish I would have asked her about her ancestors when she was alive.

My Grandma always told the family she was of indian heritage. I have forgotten the percentage she quotes, but I am thinking it was 1/16th or 1/8th. I have met others in the genealogy lines of this family who also state that it has been passed down that the Haribson's are of Indian heritage. I have also run into some of the lines which adamantly deny the heritage. Some had come to the conclusion that Maragaret Denice (Douglas) Harbison was Indian. The name Harbison is also known as "Bush Buffalo." However, after receiving my DNA test on Ancestry, I learned that no other descendants who matched my DNA had Native American DNA. It could be that the DNA is too far back, but most likely my Native American heritage is on another of my lines. I am still searching for the answer to this mystery and wish I would have asked my Grandma about it.

I would like to thank Pamela Hahn Peirce for her many years of research on the Douglas and Harbison Genealogy. She has contributed greatly as a pioneer to researching and gathering information on these families.

Credit is given to a book entitled, James E Bell's "The History and Genealogy of Ottery Creek, Iron and Reynolds Counties, Missouri" copyright 1992. I have never had possession of this book, but would love to have a copy of it.

Leona Douglas was my grandmother. Her youngest daughter, Bettie was my mother. I knew several of my Uncles and Aunt Lizzie. Please e-mail me, I would love to hear from you. My mother showed me the place in Caledonia where grandma and her family lived. I remember when I was a little girl we would go to Ottery in the summer and have a huge picnic. I've been trying to remember how to get there but I was so young I can't. Are there relatives living there? Please e-mail me!  From: DeSoto,Missouri  Email: dshray@global.net
