Joseph Marion Kirkpatrick and Martha Patsy Ross

Joseph Marion Kirkpatrick was born January 11, 1800, in Knoxville, Tennessee, to David Sevier Kirkpatrick and Catherine White.

Martha Patsy Ross was born June 4, 1804, in Missouri, to William Ross and Eliza Jane Allen.

(Note, there were a lot of trees that had Daniel J. Ross and Nancy Ingram as Martha's parents, which I believe is incorrect. Since I started their biography, I am leaving it on the website for right now.)

When did Joseph and his family come to Missouri?

Joseph and Martha were married on March 22, 1823, in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. (Marriage Record) Martha goes by her middle name of Patsy Ross. Did Joseph's family live in Cape Girardeau when first coming from Tennessee and Joseph and Martha meet here before setting in Washington County?

On November 12, 1824, Joseph and Martha have a daughter, Catherine Jane Kirkpatrick.

On November 27, 1826, Joseph and Martha have a daughter, Amanda Ann Kirkpatrick. She would marry Gustavis Knight Fulcher in 1848 and have 8 children.

On April 4, 1828, Joseph and Martha have a daughter, Mary Eliza Kirkpatrick. I have no more information on Mary. She appears in the 1830 and 1840 census, but not the 1850 census.

In the 1830 census, Missouri, Washington County, Concord Township, the members of the household are male ages 20-29 (1, Joseph), females ages 20-29 (1, Martha), females ages 5-9 (1 Catherine), and female under 5 (2, Amanda and Eliza).

On November 9, 1830, Joseph and Martha have a son, David William Kirkpatrick.

On November 28, 1833, Joseph and Martha have a daughter, Margaret Kirkpatrick.

On July 18, 1836, Joseph and Martha have a son, William R. Kirkpatrick.

In 1839, Joseph and Martha have a son, John R. Kirkpatrick.

In the 1840 census, Missouri, Washington County, Concord Township, the members of the household are male ages 40-49 (1, Joseph), females ages 30-39 (1, Martha), males 5-9 (1, David), males under 5 (1), females 15-19 (1, Catherine), females 10-14 (2, Amanda and Eliza), females 5-9 (1). There is one person employed in agriculture.

On November 21, 1841, Joseph and Martha have a daughter, Amanda Kirkpatrick.

On January 26, 1843, Joseph and Martha have a son, Joseph Marion Kirkpatrick, Jr.

On September 13, 1843, Joseph and Martha have a son, John Rolla Kirkpatrick.

On March 15, 1847, Joseph and Martha have a son, James Monroe Kirkpatrick.

I see notes that Martha died in 1847 and other notes that she died in 1848. Did she die due to complications with James’s birth? Or possible the next child?

On February 8, 1849, Joseph Marion Kirkpatrick married Mary White (born 1830) in Washington County, Missouri. (Marriage Record)

In the September 18, 1850 census, Missouri, Washington County, Concord Township, Joseph is 50 years old, a farmer, born in Tennessee. His wife Mary (28) and the children are all born in Missouri. Children in the household are David (20), Margaret (16), William (13), John (11), Joseph (9), and James (4). (The family does not continue onto the next page.)

On May 1, 1851, Joseph and Mary have a daughter, Martha Elizabeth Kirkpatrick.

On September 4, 1853, Joseph and Mary have a daughter, Faria Emmeline Kirkpatrick.

On May 21, 1856, Joseph and Mary have a daughter, Phoebe Kirkpatrick.

On May 5, 1859, Joseph and Mary have a daughter, Sarah Catherine Kirkpatrick.

On the June 28, 1860 census, Missouri, Washington County, Concord Township, Irondale Post office, Joseph (60) was born in Tennessee, is a farmer, and has real estate valued at 300 and personal property valued at 100.
