Cardinal

February 2025

The beautiful bright and happy Cardinal is 2 out of 11 birds in my window today. Sharing all of my photos in hopes one expression or turn of the head over another makes you smile. Some of the cardinals have little tufts of hair sticking straight up like a rooster impersonation, but it is called a "crest." Can you find the male, female, and juvenile ones? We had several families all at once today and either they were competing for their females or having little bickering matches. Sometimes we all have a little feather raising happening in our life. The female and youth Cardinals were not intimidated by my presence, but the male Cardinals were hard to capture as one move of my camera or my shadow would send them flying off, leaving their family behind. I am fairly certain the men were watching guard from a distance though.

I think this is one of the most recognizable birds, the cardinal! It took me a while to capture the male cardinal. Every time I raised my lens, he would see it and fly away. The female cardinal visited often.
