Poppies

Poppies are special to me. My Grandpa always made sure I had one every year while growing up. Such a sweet memory for me. Every year I buy a new one to hang from my review mirror on my car. I give them to my sons too. Grandpa was in the Battle of the Bulge in World War II.

Every year the Veteran's sell poppies to raise funds to support the veterans. Why poppies?

Flanders, in the north of France, was the scene of one of the bloodiest battles of the World War I. One of the few things said to have survived the bloodshed was the poppy. John McCrea, a Canadian doctor serving on the battlefield, wrote this poem after treating the battle wounded and burying the dead.
