2022 - newly planted (photo above)
2023 - failed to mark the date, I'll catch first bloom next year!
(Pronounced ek-in-AY-see-uh) (Greek word of "echinos" meaning “hedgehog” or "sea-urchin" as the flower is prickly)
(Pronounced pur-PUR-ee-uh) (Meaning Purple, although this one is not purple)
The family is Asteraceae (Pronounced ass-ter-AY-see-eye ) which is daisies and sunflowers.
I learned something new today! PPAF means "Plant Patent Applied For."
This is a hybrid variety meaning a cross between two plants bred or cultivated to create a new variety.
The Cantaloupe Coneflower is supposed to get 2 to 3 feet tall and mine is 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 feet tall. It is the perfect height for my garden and much preferred over the familiar native prairie plant.
The flower is in the orange tones. The flower is a semi-double coneflower and in its early stages resembles a gerbera daisy, a flower I just love! The flowers change colors as they grow and mature and end up a lighter cream color. With all of the flowers in different stages, it makes for a lovely variety of color in the garden.
The below photos were taken July 30, 2023, the date I filmed the above video.
I scanned in the tag on September 9, 2022, so I purchased this flower in the summer of 2022.
