2023 - I have photos of it blooming July 31, but I think it bloomed a week earlier. I'll journal the first bloom date next year!
(Pronounced FLOX )
(Pronounced puh-nick-u-LAH-tuh ) (meaning flowers on panicles)
The family is Polemoniaceae (Pronounced pol-uh-MOH-nee-ay-see-eye) (known as Jacob's Ladder or Phlox family)
I first planted this Peacock Cherry Red Phlox on July 5, 2021. As the name describes, it is a cherry rose color, although mine the first year were more a purple rose than a cherry rose. They have a mild fragrance. These flowers are compact and I love that they only get from 1 ½ feet to 2 feet tall. That is perfect! The only get 1 to 1 ½ inch wide, so I believe they are meant to be planted in a row as a border or multiples close together for impact.
They are like Tall Phlox, but not tall enough for that name, so I think I will call them Garden Phlox. They are also mildew resistant and tolerant of the heat.
These flowers have taken some abuse from my hubby because of where I planted them and they are striving to survive in 2023, so I have hope. They have taken some abuse from the garden hose, the piling of dirt from trenching, and inadvertent weeding. I am going to move them to a raised bed.
