Sedum rupestre 'Angelina' | Sedum Stonecrop Angelina, Rocky Stonecrop

Synonymous with Sedum reflexum

Crassulaceae (Stonecrop or Orpine Family) Pronounced KRAS-ew-luh-see-eye

Pronounced See-dumĀ  Reh-pest-ree

The name "Crassulacea" is from the Greek word "krasus" which means "think" and referencing the succulent leaves.

The name "Sedum" is from the Latin word "sedeo" which means "to sit" as the plant sits and sprawls over rocks.

The name "Rupestre" means "rock loving."

The common name of "stonecrop" is because the plant is often found in its natural setting among the rocks or stony ledges.

This is a very short plant as a ground cover mat being only 3 to 6 inches high. It will spread and drape over stone walls. It is resilient if stepped on.

The blooms are yellow and star-shaped with six petals.

This is a succulent and the leaves are chartreuse-yellow color with ginger-brown colored tips. The leaves turn reddish-orange in the Autumn in northern areas. The leaves are needle-like.

It is easy to grow. To propagate, just like other sedums, cut off a little bit of the top of a stem and stick it in the ground and it will begin to grow!

I love that it helps keep the weeds out too.

I love the color of this for contrast in the garden and plant to spread it around more. There is almost no maintenance.

Purchased in 2020.

2024

We did a lot of work this year installing drainage pipes. In the garden bed I lined where the bulk of the water flows like a river with black rocks and transplanted Sedum Angelina in between the rocks. It withstands the flow of water in the other area very well. I am anxious for it to grow and to see what it looks like filled in.
