Round Spring and Round Spring Cave

Round Spring and Round Spring Cave 2018 and 2012

Round Spring and Round Spring Cave are in Shannon County, Missouri. I have always thought of it as a state park, but it is run by the National Park Service. We have camped here several times and have always had a good experience. There is much to do for the family from taking the trail to the spring, exploring the cave, and watching for the Wild Horses of Shannon County.

The above 1990 video was made by my Grandpa and his second wife, Mary.

The first few times I visited the spring, I missed out on much of it. So be sure to follow the trail around to the back side of the spring which is rises above the spring to see even more water. Then follow the trail around to the other side of the spring and keep going if you want. We found it ended at a fence to private land. The cave is a fun one because they give you lanterns to use and that is the only way the cave is lit while you were inside. That makes this cave experience unique.

There are more photos in the above slideshow, but I picked out a few to post here as photos.

This the main spring that is coming out from underneath the cave which you see first when walking the short distance from the parking lot. Many people stop here and never see the rest of the trail.

This is what you see if you hike around and up above the spring. There is another hole of water looking down.

If you continue walking all the way around to the other side of the spring (going back down the hill) you get a this view of the spring.

The end of the trail is this fence and then you have to go back the way you came.

Highway 19 in Shannon County is a beautiful drive!
