Apple Creek Conservation Area

We visited Apple Creek Conservation Area on May 2, 2021. Since it is a nearby conservation area for us, we wanted to explore the entire map of the area and that is shared on the above video. to get to the conservatoin area, exit I-55 at the Fruitland exit, and drive north towards Fruitland for 7 miles. Turn right onto Rout CC for 6 miles. We visited the shoot range area in the above video. The we drove further down the road to the boat ramp area.

We hiked the trail and you can see the map and more details about the trail on the above video. It was not a difficult trail except that it is for horses and they have made muddy ruts in the trail that can twist an ankle if not careful.

For the time of year we visited, there were a lot of May Apples! I love May Apples.

The trail comes to and goes along the edge of the fabulous open area with yellow flowers (at least the flowers were there for the time of year we visited. This open area was my favorite part of the hike.

We did cross a stream.

We finished on this service road and had to go around the gate.

We were so close to the Mississippi River that we went on an adventure! We tried to find the Mississippi River and were successful. We crossed these railroad tracks and I suppose I snapped a photo of what was behind us. Watch at the end of the video for this perfect place to see the river.

To reach this private place on the Mississippi River, take CC and turn left onto Highway 535.

This is the parking area. Of course, if the river is in flood stage, it might not look like this. In 2022 I had a delightful event where I shared this place with someone on Facebook trying to get an over 90 year old man in a wheelchair to the river to fish one more time. She sent me back photos and he was so happy! There are not many places where you can get a wheelchair right up to the Mississippi River.
