Juden Creek Conservation Area and Twin Trees Park

Juden Creek Conservation Area May 29, 2021

Juden Creek Conservation Area is right here in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. It is a great hike for locals and I think many locals do not realize it even exists. It is nothing to drive a distance for, but if you are nearby, check it out. The above is a video of our hike on May 29, 2021. Also in the area is the Four Seasons Audubon Socity, the Kelso Sanctuary, and Twin Trees Park which is a City park. Looking at the map provided at the park and Google maps places these areas in different places, but they are all surrounding each other. Twin Trees Park, I believe, is near the railroad and has access to see bridges and backwash from the Mississippi River. It is hard to visit one without stopping by the other.

Now Twin Trees Park is fun to explore for the young at heart that likes to climb down near the water areas, but it can be dangerous too, so be smart. Also, do not do as I do! I am fairly certain that the railroad tracks are not somewhere we are supposed to be, but I am drawn to them with my camera.

If you go past Juden Creek and cross the bridge on the highway, there is a pull off. We enjoyed walking down Juden Creek at this location.

You can see that these three maps disagree a bit on the locations.

This sign makes it seem they are all together.

It starts out going up hill, but the hike is not really all that bad.

The hike is on a ridge and this is looking down at Juden Creek.

This is looking down the other side where you can walk down to the pond. It is a steep, but it is not that far to go down and walk around the pond.

Approaching the pond.

It's not all that pretty, but it's something to do.

I did find a turtle on a log!

This tree is funny as it looks like a wishing bone.

This is back at the bottom and across at Twin Trees Park with the backwash of the Mississippi River. This is the bridge the train crosses.

This is looking from Twin Trees Park back up at the area of Juden Creek. You can see it goes uphill.

This is the parking lot for Juden Creek.

This is the same parking lot to Juden Creek. Next to the parking lot you can see the two pillars. I have read about these online. However, they do not look completely like, but maybe they are, the photos I've seen of Kelso Sanctuary Natural Area, located on Highway 177, which began in 1937 as Springdale Bird Sanctuary, with little houses on top of the pillars.

These look much sturdier than those in the old photo.

North Freeze.

I believe this is the same bridge as in the above photos taken from the road (and not walking down the railroad tracks like a stupid person).
