Mouse Pad Tutorial with Fabric

Click on the image source for a tutorial on how to create your own mouse pad with your choice of fabric. She uses cork cut into a circle and double-sided fusible web. I find many of the mouse pads in the stores for purchase to be ugly, but am often attracted to fabric. This is so easy to do with just an iron too. I am wondering how the cork works as a base however. If I ever have time, I may just try this tutorial.

She indicates this can also be done for coasters. I love the idea of using matching material to my hand-sewn curtains, pillows, or table cloths for a coaster.
