Ferdinand Grunke & Caroline Rohlof

1Ferdinand Grunke
b: in Germany

+Caroline Rohlof
b: in Germany

When Ferdinand's father was a young man, he joined a mercenary army in Russia, at the time Napoleon invaded Russia, to fight Napoleon. That was when Napoleon invaded Russia. (wikipedia invasion of Russia was 1812) But when they got in Russia or Poland a ways they found a little girl that was lost, wandering around alone. Ferdinand's father picked up the little girl, left the army, and came home to Germany. The family lived in the eastern part of Germany, near the Russian, Polish border. He could not have gone very far into Russia. The girl grew up with the family and married Ferdinand. Her granddaughter, Leona, was said to have looked like her. Her granddaughter Caroline Ehmler Grunke said she took care of her before she died, and said she was gentle and sweet and very patient. This story is as told in a letter from Hilda Grunke and a letter from Elsie who believed it was the 1812 invasion. This little girl would have been Caroline Rohlof. (Since Caroline cared for her, does this mean she came to America?)
