House Sparrow

Note to self since I confuse wrens and sparrows! The bills of a wren are long, thin, and curved because they eat largely insects. The bills of sparrows are short and deep because they eat seeds. that makes sense!

These little guys have so much texture in the brown, white, and black colors of their feathers. February 2021

I love watching them go in and out of the birdhouse in the back of the yard with the Clematis growing up the pole.

It picked up bread somewhere.

Feeding the babies! We used to love watching the house sparrows feed the babies on our patio, until one year we got bird mites on the patio and it was a very horrible year and the bird house had to go. Now we discourage birds from being on the patio.

This one is clearly has an ant in its face! We have had this bird feeders since our sons were young in cub scouts in the 1990's. It gets used every single year by the house sparrows.
