White-Throated Sparrow

Note to self since I confuse wrens and sparrows! The bills of a wren are long, thin, and curved because they eat largely insects. The bills of sparrows are short and deep because they eat seeds. that makes sense!

#8 of 11 birds in my snowy garden is the White-throated Sparrow. I have been down this road before where I think that this bird is a Wren, only to have to relearn time and again that it is a Sparrow. This little guy only feeds from the ground and not from the hanging feeders. He hops around which is adorable. I love the stripes on his head and there is so much textured color in the fluff about its body. It has a mostly white belly. I think of the word "commoner" when I see this bird and often it gets missed amongst the other birds. It does not garner much attention, but with all it's beautiful coat markings, I do not see why. Not only does it have a white throat, but it has yellow eyebrows! How fun is that! February 2021
