I have had enough, Lord! (a prayer)

June 26, 2014
I thought I would start sharing some of my private prayers that I am putting on a private blog, just between me and God, because I feel God calling me to share them as He speaks to me through my prayers. I am loving how God is working in me this way!

If you've been reading in the forum, I've been rather burnt out recently and I've been trying to give myself some down time. Here's today's snippet and a photograph I took last weekend.

I've been feeling very burnt out lately Lord. I want to cry out like Elijah in 1 Kings 19:4 and say "I have had enough, Lord!" and collapse under a broom bush for shade. I googled a broom bush because I did not know what it was and it seems to be a small bush, so small that only shade would be provided if one sat down under it like Elijah.

I have a desire to 'just stop' doing stuff and to-do's for a while and find my rest in You. I want to be in a quiet place, away from all the stuff, all the information overload, all the thinking and planning, all the tasks, people, and all the things I've had enough of and just shout out to You and sit and talk to You for a while. No, I do not want to die like Elijah, but just to take His example and get away from the regularity and weariness of life and the worries that bring us down and discourage us.

In verse 5, Elijah fell asleep. In verse 6, Elijah was provided food to eat. Then he repeated it all again until his strength was restored. Time away and time with God, sleep, and good nourishment is what we need to restore our physical and mental being. Help me, Lord, to focus on these things for a while so that I may rejuvenate and go along my path filled with spiritual food and physical food, ready to do whatever it is that You would want me to be doing with my days.

Mark 6:31 “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.”
Psalm 46:10 “Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!”
Zechariah 2:13 Be silent, all flesh, before the Lord, for he has roused himself from his holy dwelling.
Matthew 11:29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

In verse 1 Kings 19:9, You ask, "“What are you doing here, Elijah?” and I feel You asking me the same thing, Lord. What AM I doing here? Is the way I spend my time the way I should be spending my time? What would You have me be doing with my time? What path would you have me take for Your name's sake?

Psalm 23:3 He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
