Timothy or Silas Wright and Emeline Cavalry

Also see notes on Andrew Jackson Wright's page. This is a brick wall for me. The only information I have on the parents of Andrew Jackson Wright are Andrew's marriage records.

Timothy or Silas Wright. In Andrew's marriage to Mary Lucinda Marshall, he lists Timothy Wright as his father. In Andrew's second marriage to Annie Seikaup he lists Silas Wright as his father. It is possible that his father's name is Timothy Silas Wright or Silas Timothy Wright. Note: Silas is derived from the name Silvanus. Also consider Cyris which is phonetically similar. I wonder if son Andew Jackson Wright stuck around Ottawa, LaSalle County, because his parents and/or other family were there.

Emeline Cavalry. In Andrew's marriage to Mary Lucinda Marshall, he lists Emeline Cavalry as his mother. This is an unusual name and since Mary Lucinda's mother's names is spelled phonetically (and is way off the real spelling), I wonder about this last name and if it is something much different.  Also, his mother's first name is spelled in the health notes as Emeline and nicknames could be Emily or Emma.  Possible name variations to search: Calvary, Cavalier, Calverleigh, Cavelry, Cavry, Calvery, Calvey, Connelly, Calvet, Kowalski, Cavalsy, Cavenaugh (Chevelear, Anthony in history book). In Andrew's second marriage to Annie Seikaup, it looks like his mother's last name is spelled Dalvary.

The June 1, 1880 census, Ottowa, La Salle County, Illinois, Andew's parents are both born in West Virginia.

1849 Residence of Timothy Silas Wright and Emeline Cavalry: Andrew Jackson Wright was born in 1849 in Harrison County, West Virginia, which at that time would have been the State of Virginia (West Virginia being founded June 20, 1863). Andrew was giving the location in his marriage application as it existed at the time of his marriage in 1879. In a handwritten Bible note his place of birth is listed one time as Pennsylvania. This would mean that in 1849, his parents were living where Andrew was born.

West Virginia Reseach Note: The records were not moved and stayed with the county when it became part of West Virginia, but the records will state 'Virginia' on them. When West Virginia became a state, the county names did not change.

A big clue as to Andrew's family is that he had three children, one of which was named Albert Nutter Wright.  I believe "Nutter" is a family surname.

There is a Nutter Fort in Harrison County, West Virginia. West Virginia was formed from Virginia during the Civil War 1963 and I understand Nutter Fort has Civil War history. The middle name of the grandson is most likely from Emeline's side of the family. Nutter Fort is a town in Harrison County, West Virginia, incorporated in 1923. The town is a southeastern suburb of Clarksburg. The Town of Nutter Fort received its name from a family named Nutter. The Nutters were of Scotch-English descent, coming to America at an early date. Thomas Nutter first settled in Sussex County, Delaware, where his oldest son, Christopher was born.

I was once told my Grandpa Rutledge would travel to a family reunion in Wheeling, West Virginia at a "plantation." We always thought it would be Rutledge ancestors. My instinct believes it was the Nutter family reunion. It could have been a "fort" instead of a "plantation," I guess. This could be nothing or be significant. Another son is Joseph Albert Wright which I have instinct may be a family name as well.

Note: Look up George & Luella Page who are witnesses on first marriage of Andrew. Are they friends or possibly relatives?

RESEARCH NOTES

I saw several probate records that mentioned a Silas W. Wright in LaSalle County, Illinois. This newspaper snippet from The Ottawa Free Trader Sat, Mar 29, 1890 ·Page 4, lists Silas W. Wright as surety on a $2,200 bond. If he is Andrew's father, then he would have outlived Andrew.

I found a Silas Wright in Serena, LaSalle, Illinois, in a book Past and Present LaSalle County Illinois 1877 Page 474. I was excited as that is just north of Ottowa. Then I found the 1880 Census for Silas Wright Illinois La Salle Serena 089. He is 35 years old, making him born in 1845, which would make him born at a similar generation to my Andrew Jackson Wright instead of a generation before him as his father. Is it a brother or a cousin? He is born in Vermont and his parents in England, making me think they are not related.

I found a Samuel S. Wright in the 1840 Census for Samuel S Wright Illinois La Salle Not Stated. I supposed the middle name could be Silas and it is worth looking into further.

I found in a book Genealogy of Richard Wright a mention of a Silas Wright born to Emsley Wright (born 188) and Catherine Inyart. It mentions Emsley going to Lurkin, Illinois. Their home was Sumner, Illinois.
