Armeria pseudarmeria 'Ballerina Lilac' | Thrift 'Ballerina Lilac,' False Sea Thrift

Plumbaginaceae (Leadwort or Plumbago Family) Pum-badge-e-NAY-see-eye

The name "armeria" is from an old French name "armoires" for the cluster-headed dianthus.

The name "pseudarmeria means "false armeria" which refers to superficially resembling dianthus which the round flower cluster resembles (except my dianthus is not like a globe so I do not get it).

The Ballerina Lilac Thrift blooms mid to late Spring and into the Summer and randomly reblooms sometimes in the Summer and early Fall.

Rots in moist soil. Only hardy to Zone 6, which is on the border being I am in 6b (now 7a in 2023).

The plant is 8 to 15 inches tall when flowering. Leaves are narrowly lanceolate and evergreen. The flowers are globular (aka globe-shaped).

I actually love this plant as it reminds me of the purple allium globes. I may try it again someday. It could have gotten "weeded" by hubby.

In 2024, I did see it in the store and almost bought it, but we are putting in drainage pipes and I need to watch my budget.
