Anemone blanda 'Blue Shades' (Balkcan) | Windflowers

2017 March - it bloomed. I did not see it in 2018 and in 2022 declared it must be gone. It was probably treated like a weed. I like it and would by it again.

Anenome is really a tuber!

Anemone blanda 'Blue Shades' (Balkcan) | Windflowers

Ranunculaceae ( Buttercup Family) Pronounced Ruh-nunc-you-lace-ee-eye

Ranunculaceae is from the Latin word "ranunculus" which means "little frog, or "rana" which means "frog."

The word "anemone" comes from the Greek word "anemos" which means "wind" because the flowers are fragile and susceptible to the wind. It is said that the wind blows the flowers open. There is a Greek myth story about Adonis and his lover Aphrodite. While hunting Adonis was killed by a wild boar and Aphrodite found her lover dead. Aphrodite's tears fell on the ground covered with red anemones.

Anemone blanda and Anemone nemorosa (wood) are cold-hardy. The variety Anemone coronaria (poppy) is best grown in pots because the bulbs should be dug up and taken inside in the Winter or the pot itself can be taken indoors. Two other types of Anemone are Japanese anemone (Anemone hupehensis) and Snowdrop anemone (Anemone sylvestris).

This plant is a low-growing perennial with daisy-like flowers. Now I have read that these are perennial, bulb, corms, and rhizomes! Which is it!? It was so long ago I do not remember what I planted.
