The Fun Extras - Set Seven

138. What if your ancestors scrapbooked?

If one of your earlier ancestors had scrapbooked (say 200 years ago), what kinds of things would most interest you in their albums?

Reflecting on this question might help shape the way you scrapbook today.

***********
My answer:
Their way of life. I would want to see their house, their farm, their land, how they got around/traveled, what activities they went to, what clothes they wore on a regular day, their schools...etc.

Here are your answers!

I have no pictures of relatives before my grandparents. I would want to see who they were, what they looked like, what were their names, where they lived, what family group they belonged to, and what interests they had. Belle33

Names, where they lived, and where the photo was taken. Stories about the photo. Tammyshere

Funny you should bring this topic up. I am in the middle of doing just that. I have a family photo consisting of lots of relatives back in the late 1800s. I am transcribing an audio tape of my great-uncle from 1977 who is telling us the story of the photo and history. In this photo he is a little boy about 5 years old and he was born in 1904 the last of his siblings, which numbered about 10 kids - whew! I know exactly what they would scrap about and that would be where they came from and how they got here to America as slaves and how they became educators, contractors, brick masons and very well respected people. I am proud. ccynden

Definitely where they were from and photos of their homes and areas they lived in. My ancestors are from France and England and I wish I knew about their lives. I would also like to know what kind of tradesmen the men in the family were or what kind of work they did. NancyP

I have an album of my great grand mothers, just full of pictures on the old black paper. She died in 1962. Some of the people I recognize, but the only picture, with any journaling at all, is a rooster labeled "Handsome Harry". Which is interesting in light of the fact that when I was a kid I had a rooster that I named Handsome. I sure would like to know some details on the other photos. So that is the lesson I take from it. Don't just put pictures on the page, say something. It's sad to have all those pictures and the only thing I know for sure is the name of her chicken! lorynda

I would want to know everything about them a1bjm

I don't have old pictures like that, but I would have loved to see what their everyday life was like, and see if any of my ancestors were musically inclined like I am. No one in my immediate family is, so it makes me wonder if anyone else was. Dawn

would like to know all of it Dawn Miner

I love history. I would love to know about my ancestors, what did they do with their time, what were their interests, where did they live, what did they wear, how did they treat other people? Anything and everything about them that gives me a bit of my history Maggie
