The Fun Extras - Set Five

81. How much is too much?

In this Digital Buzz Quest, we consider the cost of kits and how much we are willing to pay.

At what price do you say "this is to much for kit so I am not going to buy it (or I am going to wait until a sale?)".

Here are your comments!

Usually anything over $5. And it really depends on the kit, too. Tammyshere

I was looking at a collab kit that I really like, and for the bundle (that includes more alphas, clustered frames, layer styles, etc) Was 11.99. I don't think I have spent more than 7 on a kit. I mean, I know that the designers deserve to be paid well for their efforts- especially when they are great quality, but... when you're on a limited income like I am, you wait for the sales. Dawn

If it's a regular sized kit, I rarely see myself paying more than 5 bucks for it. If it's a collab, maybe more, but my income is scarce and I have too much in my computer already. It has to be exactly what I'm looking for for me to buy it in the first place. mawkinberd -

I agree that $5.00 is usually my limit especially since there are always sales. I will spend more, however, if it's a kit I desperately need for a project such as a storybook. One thing I hate now is getting kits that have the same alpha/elements but in 3 or 4 different colors. I think that's a waste since we can change the colors ourselves. Belle33

I rarely buy kits, but if I do, I'm with everyone else in that my limit would be about $5. I'm really loving Hummie's Designer class so that I can make my own papers and elements. g_robb53

yes that sounds about right for me too. g_robb53 you are so righ about this !! { I hate now is getting kits that have the same alpha/elements but in 3 or 4 different colors. I think that's a waste since we can change the colors ourselves.} Dawn Miner

I rarely buy kits, but would not pay over 5 bucks either. Jules

$5 is my limit. And it would have to be one heck of a kit for me to spend that much. Because of my design background and photoshop knowledge, I've been making a lot of stuff recently (both for the design classes here at hummies and for fun) and am slowly building a folder of 'core elements' for my personal use and may one day start selling once I have enough stuff in that folder to pull from. Edina

I am with the majority and feel $5 is my limit. ccynden

thanks to my CT work, I rarely have to buy a kit to find something I want nowadays, LOL, but if I see something I just gotta have, I'll buy it, but wouldn't ever pay over $5 for it. And when you see the quality of the...'European' kits, shall we say, at places like Digiscrapping.ch and Digital-Crea for silly prices, with loads more stash in each kit (generally), I do think very carefully about what I'm buying. I saw a kit I really wanted at DeviantScrap the other day but refuse to pay the $6 or $7 it was...will have to wait for a sale I suppose!! Thankfully I don't generally need anything I haven't already got, so am training myself not to even look at a lot of places now, LOL Bernie x

Like a lot of others, I tend to ignore anything over $5 unless it's really special. One of the designers I like for the more cheerful child kits sells them for $1.50 - $2.00. I sometimes wait for sales. JanetMM

I have a monthly budget for my love of digital scrapbooking. I stick to it too. Yes if you are not carefully, you can spend a lot. 204cg

It depends. If it's a CU item that i do not know how to make or that i am really impressed with, i will pay the price. I rarely buy a PU kit, but never more than $4.99. lovinlifegurl

$5.00 is usually my limit to pay for a kit. loobyloo

I normally don't spend over £5 on a kit and quite often it's far less than that these days. I tend to recolour and rework the embellishments that I have already accumulated over time so I often mix and match from lots of kits on one lo. a1bjm

I'm in the same boat as far as limited income goes, but also being a CT I receive lots of free kits and, believe me, I also watch for the sales!! New kits are usually on sale for awhile, and if I like it I grab it then. I usually stay around $3.00 for a kit unless I absolutey fall in love with it, then I will go a little higher. NancyP

I think that I've never gone over $6, but I think that $5 is a good point. But if it was a mega kit and I thought I would use it all I might pay more. JustAMommie

I don't think I'd go more than $5, but it depends on what the kit contains. I usually won't buy one unless it's something I really, really want Maggie
