William Ross, Sr. and Mary Griffin

William Ross, Sr. was born August 9, 1731, in Williamston, Martin County, North Carolina to William Ross, of Scotland, who settled in Roanoke, Virginia. His father William Ross moved to Martin County, North Carolina at a date unknown. Their complexions were generally dark (Ross Dhu). They were both members of the Baptist church.

Mary Griffin was born in 1731 (or 1738).

The Life and Times of Elder Reuben Ross (published 1882) was written by his son, James Ross (1801-1878), the brother of William Ross. My download contains applicable pages that are highlighted. The entire book isĀ here on Google as well as the East Carolina Digital University Collectionand the Internet Archive. The March 1985 Collage of Cape County contain excerpts of the book. This book gives William Ross, Sr.'s date of birth in Marton County, North Carolina. The book also lists the names and birthdates of the children below. There is much in this book about William's life, and I point you to it rather than quoting it all here.

[Note: Where does the middle name of Huge come from for William? Where does his birth location of Williamston come from?]

The Life and Times of Elder Reuben Ross (published 1882) was written by his son, James Ross (1801-1878) gives William's date to death.

In 1833, the family record was brought from North Carolina to Tennessee-Kentucky border area by James Ross, William and Mary's grandson. [Was this a Bible record? This is the information for the list of children above.]
