THIS IS MY WORKING GENEALOGY BIOGRAPHIES, PLEASE DO NOT COPY AS FACT. Some photos are personal and are not to be copied and republished; other images are okay. Documentation I collected as proof to support facts (i.e. dates, relationships, etc.) are available for your use. I share freely, but please do not abuse copyright or perpetuate any information without supporting facts that may or may not be in error. I try to mark in red my questions or documents I need to look for, so your assistance in making this a complete collection is always appreciated.
THIS IS A WORKING BIOGRAPHY in that I have a theory based on quite a few DNA matches. I am just getting started.
Isaac is born ......
Isaac is married to Jane Finney (need record)
On ______, Isaac has a son, James Rutledge.
On June 1756 near the town of Carlisle, in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, Isaac has a son, William Rutledge.
On August 2, 1775, William Rutledge is 19 years old when a Guardianship Bond is entered into in probate court in Rowan County, North Caronlina. (Estate File 1775 Isaac Rutledge, Rowan County Probate). This document indicates that both James and William are minors and orphans. William was born June 1756 would have become 18 in June 1774. William and James's father is Isaac Rutledge. David Caldwell and and Samuel Luckey agree to be guardians of the boys. [Note: When was James born? Are David Caldwell and Samuel Luckey related? I think David is related to an Elenore Caldwell Rutledge, but I am not sure how she fits in yet.]
------------------------
A working theory is that Isaac Rutledge's Father is Isaac Rutledge. Until I have more documentation, I am going to stick this information here. The puzzle pieces seem to be fitting together, so I am going to organize it here.
_____
Isaac is married three times (to Mollie Bartree, Catherine, and Elizabeth) and I am going to focus on the first marriage for now, as that is the one that relates to me.
Children of Isaac and Mollie Bartree are:
John Rutledge and Elenore (who)
I have transcribed a Will in Rowan County, North Carolina admitted into probate in 1775 for John Rutledge that is said to be this John Rutledge. The Will is written September 12, 1774. John would have died before the date of admitting the Will to probate in 1775, so I am using that as his date of death.
John’s children are: John, James, Susanna, and Joseph. His wife is Elenore.
Who is Robert Dobson? [get documentation as to who he is to the family]
Robert Rossberg (Roseburgh) in Pennsylvania is his sister Eleanor's husband.
The Bible is to be delivered to “her son William.” Is this her son from a previous marriage? Or is this his and her son with the last name of Rutledge?
Isaac Rutledge is living with John Turnbill. It does not say any relationship of Isaac Rutledge. Is that a father, son, uncle, or cousin? --There is an Isaac Rutledge who marries Jane Finney on April 15, 1760, and Jane's second husband is John Turnbill. Other trees show that his son Isaac (above) is married to Jane Finney.
Eleanor Rutledge & Robert Roseburgh Jr. (need documentation)
Isaac Rutledge (above) & Jane Finney
Mathew Rutledge
Mary Rutledge

I transcribed a Will for Peter King, Rowan County, North Carolina, admitted into probate in 1782, whose daughter Matilda marries a William Rutledge. The Will is written September 8, 1763. So far, I am not sure how this ties into any of the other lines I am working on. It is mentioned here because of the location similarity and the early timeline. I have been doing research on Rutledge since before the old Rootweb begain in 1993 and I have seen the name Matilda King Rutledge so many times it is familiar to me! I added this to my Ancestry tree.
There is no mention of his wife.
Peter’s children are Johnston King, Benajah King, Elizabeth (King) Fish, Matilda (King) Rutledge, Mary (King) James, Sarah (King) Raynolds, Zilphah (King) Randol, and Peter King, Jr.. Five daughters are married.
His grandsons are Peter Hams and Peter King, Jr. His grandson Nicholas King is the son of Peter King, Jr. Does that mean there are three generations of Peter King alive at the same time?
____
I transcribed a Will for a John Rutledge, Rowan County, North Carolina, admitted into probate in 1805. So far, I cannot connect this line, but I put it on Ancestry and I put it here becayse of location similiarity.
1. The date of the Will is December 24, 1804, but it is recorded in the 1805 probate record, implying his death soon after the Will was written.
2. John’s wife’s name is not mentioned; John’s children are: Able, Isaac, Margaret, Susanah, Ann, & Prudence. Able and Prudence are possibly youngest since he is providing for their schooling.
3. John wanted all of his daughter’s treated the same in that each have a bed, clothes, spinning wheel, and a saddle.
4. Who is A. Champbel who John appoints as executor? Is that Campbel? Is he related?
5. There is a spring on their land and he wants them to be able to move the house to the other side of the spring.
I transcribed a Will for Able Rutledge, Rowan County, North Carolina, admitted into probate 1816. It seems clear that this is the son of the above John Rutledge.
Able Rutledge has no wife or children, but his mother survived him. However, Able has a father-in-law, which infers that his wife has died.
2. Able owned land and a plantation.
3. Able’s brother is Isaac Rutledge and Able has sisters.
4. William Gay is Able’s brother-in-law. Internet research indicates Abel's sister, Ann, married William Gay, on Aug. 26, 1808. Internet research indicates that in 1806 Ann Rutledge, daughter of John Rutledge, was appointed guardian for two siblings, Abel and Prudence.
5. Who is Richard Miller? Able allows his Mother to dispose of the remainder of his estate, but disallows her from giving Richard Miller any of it. By doing so, he disinherits Richard Miller. Who is Richard Miller to Able?
6. The Will is executed April 12, 1816, and admitted into probate in May 1816, implying that Able died shortly after making the Will.
_____
I transcribed a Will for James Rutledge, Rowan County, North Carolina, admitted into probate 1813. Of course, I think about my brick wall James Rutledge being named after his father James Rutledge, but sometimes they are named after uncles or grandparents as well. At this time, I do not see any connection to this James and the other Rutledges in North Carolina, but am thinking surely there is some sort of connection. Online trees seem to take this line to Deleware, which is different than all the other lines I am researching.
1. James Rutledge’s wife is Ruth Rutledge. His children are Daniel Rutledge, Mariam (Rutledge) Roberson, Elizabeth (Rutledge) Forcum, Ruth (Rutledge) Parker, Mathilda (Rutledge) Gallon, and James Rutledge.
2. Will is executed September 8, 1809, but admitted into probate November 1813, implying a date of death in 1813.
