Hugh was born circa 1745 in Charleston, South Carolina to John Rutledge and Sarah Hext Rutledge. He died January 15, 1811, in Charleston, South Carolina.
Of Interest: He was a prominent jurist, serving as the Speaker of the South Carolina House of Representatives and later as a Judge of the Court of Equity.
Married: Ann Smith on October 9, 1783. She died in June 1787.
Married: Mary Golightly Huger on October 4, 1788.
