Allred Lake Natural Area (by MO Conservation)

Allred Lake Conservation Area is at the bottom of Missouri close to the Arkansas line in Butler County, Missouri. For my website, we had nothing posted for Butler County, so we started out looking for something to visit in the county. There are no state parks in the county, but there are several conservation areas.

The trail to the boardwalk about about a .24 mile, so it is a great short hike for anyone. This is truly "Swampeast Missouri" as we Missourians like to call it. The Cypress trees with the knees growing out the water are something to see here.

This was the road in and all over Butler County is not much but flat farm fields. It is a beautiful drive. It is probably the time of year after the January snow fall, but there were stands of water everywhere along side the roadways. It made hubby think of a song or a poem called "The Song of Hiawatha" by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow that goes "By the shores of Gitche Gumee, By the shining Big-Sea-Water, Stood the wigwam of Nokomis." So now this lake will be forever associated with the name Gitche Gummee as an inside joke.

We wer excited to see Daffodils in January!
