Red Star can be seen in the snow starting at 1:41 minutes in the above video.
The Red Star District in Cape Girardeau is well known by those who have lived in this City for a while. First, the tornado of 1949 hit this area hard and hubby's Grandparents lost their home on Hill Street. Many years later, just below Hill Street on Rand Street is now a vacant lot where Hubby lived for a period of time before his Mother died. He has lots of memories living here, from walking up to visit his Grandma and using her outhouse, to being loose as a kid and wading in the water of the Mississippi River, to watching the flood waters creep up to the home.
Red Star is known for being flooded as it has no protection from the Mississippi River like downtown has with the river wall. Red Star Access has become a fun place to visit to get a view of the downtown bridge over the Mississippi River with the lights at night. There is a trail that extends along the river from downtown to the Red Star Access and I like to take that walk. The "access" which is owned by Missouri Department of Conservation is also known as Honkers Boat Dock. The railroad tracks also come through this area.

There are more photos in the above video slideshow than what I could share on this page.
2013 Fireworks
For a few years, the City put off fireworks from the river and people came downtown to watch. I watched them from Red Star. Again, more photos included in the above slideshow.
