Blue Spring, Eminence

Blue Spring, Eminence, July 20, 2012

The most well known "Blue Spring" is at Eminence and is the 8th largest Spring in Missouri. It was called "Spring of the Summer Sky" by Native Americans. I note the official name is singular, but everyone calls it "Blue Springs." The spring is over 310 feet deep, one of the deepest in the United States, which gives it this unforgettable blue color. If you were to place the Statue of Liberty in Blue Spring, her torch would be five feet below the surface of the water!

To get to Blue Springs, at the four-way stop in Eminence, travel about 14 miles on State Route 106 and turn right onto County Road 535. This is a very steep and long road which can be intimidating, so it is not good for all vehicles. At the parking lot is a 1/4 mile easy trail to the Spring that follows along the Current River. The water from the Spring flows into the Current River. You can also walk about 1/2 mile from the Powder Mill Campground.

These are some photos from when we went camping with our two sons and the family. I loved taking my first granddaughter here.

August 18, 2012

My husband was jealous that I went to see all these beautiful places with my friend that I had to go back with him a month later. This time I took better photos.

It does not look very deep, but we know it is!
