Coldwater Access

We enjoyed exploring Coldwater Access and wished we had more time to actually get into the water of the St. Francis River.

Directions are to take Highway 67 north, from the intersection of Highways 34 and 67 near Silva, for approximately 9 miles. Turn left onto County Road 302 and drive on the gravel road for 3 miles where it deadends at the river. There are good signs to direct your path. Of course, you can also come from the north on Highway 67. It is a long 3 miles on the gravel road, but the views from within a valley are beautiful.

The town of Coldwater, Missouri, is just north on Highway 67. Camp Lewellan, the all too-familiar boy scout camp, is also on this stretch of Highway 67.

At the destination, there is a road to the left which also cuts across the area to more access to the river and the designated camping areas.

Primitive camping is allowed here and there are several designated areas. The above photo is the water area below the first campsite.

We wanted to explore Coldwater Conservation Area, which is sprawled out over a large area, but our day trip did not allow us time to do so, although we did see several signs on both Highway 34 and Highway 67 to enter the Conservation Area. We wonder if there is anything of interest there other than land for hunters.
