This campground is known as "Double D Campground." Sometimes folks just say Double D and they know what you are talking about. It is located in Marquand, Madison County, Missouri. The above video is of our stay and river wallowing on July 19 - 20, 2025. The campground sure has changed since the first time we stayed here! Wow! It has expanded a lot. We were one of the very first primite campers when they opened that up years ago, but we had some tick problems because it was brand new. They do take efforts now and we had tick problems, but the sweat bees loved it. That was no matter because we spent our day in the water! The place where the primitie camping was near the entrance when we first camped is no longer and it has moved clear the other side of the area. We will certainly be back as we love how close this camp is to our home.
The above video is of our float trip on the Castor River in tubes and us "river wallowing" at Double D. I guess back in 2015 I wasn't concerned with taking photos of the whole place. River wallowing is our favorite thing to do! Just stick a low chair in the water, grab a plastic container of wine, and watch and feel the water go by. Love it! We like this place to wallow.
We have visited many times here over the years for day trips. You can pay by the car load and enjoy the Caster River from their campground. The owners are nice. On the first year that they offered tent camping, we stayed, but found the ticks were terrible. We needed to give them time to clear the area before we tried again, but we never did camp again. There is a nice and clean restroom and shower building that can be used to change out of your swimming clothes before visiting the nearby winery Dorso Hills to eat a meal to finish off the day. On our visit on August 1, 2015, we went on the float trip down the Castor River offered by these folks. The river was a little low and we had to walk a lot, but we did enjoy our time. I would try to go earlier in the summer if I did it again.
