We visited the Blackberry Hollow Farm 9175 E Piedmont Rd, Bonnie, Illinois, just above Rend Lake, on September 2, 2024, on our Labor Day vacation day. I had spied this place on social media earlier this year and just new it was my thing! It would be fun to go again earlier in the year during blackberry season. These folks have planted up fields of flowers and make walking trails through the followers. It seems the flowers are different at different times of the year, so I would love to come again next year at a different time of the year. There is also a you-pick flower section and where cut your own flowers and take them inside where they put them into a beautiful bouquet for you.
We first stopped impromptu at the Bonnie Cafe and ate a country meal. It is just like one of those little cafes in a small town everyone is always looking for that serves delicious home-cooked meals. It sure was a hopping place full of people.
The flower walk is free, but there are several donation boxes up around the place to help keep it free. There is a store with seeds and other products available for sale to help support the small business, as well as paying for your cut flowers.
This photo shows the two yellow flowers that were in the fields. They were Bidens Aristosa and Partidge Pea Flower. I did by some Aristosa seed as I have never had that before, and I bought another flower seed as well that they said was a short variety as I a really looking for short things in my garden.
Their cosmos was so beautiful. Mine keep getting taller and taller and have never bloomed.
