Black Mountain Waterfall and Marble Creek Campground

I have always heard great things about Marble Creek Campground, and since we camped at Sycamore Springs nearby, on the way home I decided to take a drive to give a look to scope it out for a future camping trip on June 22, 2025. Marble Creek is located in the Mark Twain National Forest in Madison County, Missouri. Campsites can be reserved through Recreation.gov. Marble Creek Recreation Area is together in the same spot and can be visited as a day use area, operated by the U.S. Forest Service. It was a beautiful drive down to Marble Creek. In some places are views of the St. Francis Mountains.

Black Mountain Waterfall is along Highway E in Madison County, Missouri. There are many pulloffs that can be explored along this beautiful stretch of highway. The pulloffs are small and one can easily drive right by them!

This is the view from Highway E and it does not look like much, but we walked on in and we found the water flowing. I can imagine right after a rain it is an amazing waterfall.

There it is, water flow!

We took several images at the water from the campsites as we were interested in the campsites near the St. Francis River, as well as some from the recreation area.
