Issaqueena Falls Waterfall & Stumphouse Mountain Tunnel Park is located in Walhalla, South Carolina and is managed by the City. There was a fee station when we arrived, but there was an availability to log into your phone to pay, which took a few minutes to do, so when you arrive, expect to start with patience.
This is where the park is located in northern South Carolina. There is a Blue Ridge Railroad hiking trail head at the parking lot for the falls, and there were lots of folks parking to take the 2.5 mile trail, but we did not walk on it.
It is .2 mile walk to the Issaqueena Falls, and then the short walk back. It starts by walking over this bridge. We learned while we were walking around observing that these two creeks feed the waterfall.
There is a legend of a Creek maiden called Issaqueena that the waterfall is named after.
I was excited to see this map! We were having trouble finding our way to varies waterfalls and this was the first helpful map we could find.
At the end of this boardwalk is the waterfall.
There is a peak of the mountains on the trail.
The waterfall is amazing, but not so much from the overlook. We did not risk at our age climbing down to the bottom of the waterfall for the better view. It was rather steep.
We walked to the other side of the waterfall and were right on the top of it, but it still was not much of a view.
This is the trail to the tunnel. We thought it would be much longer of a trail, but the tunnel is right at the end of this photo. We did drive from one parking lot to the other, although they are not all that far from each other.
There are some metal remnants from the railroad at the top of the walkway.
Stumphouse Tunnel was dug with hand tools prior to the Civil War by the Blue Ridge Railroad. It was never completed.
We did walk most of the way into the tunnel. It is a dead end and blocked off at the end.
It was raining when we first walked into the tunnel!
Tunnels are always fun to view as you walk out of them with the light coming in.
