Lake Showme (Memphis) Conservation Area

In our quest to visit something in every county of Missouri, we traveled to the Lake Showme Conservation Area on Saturday, May 20, 2023. It is located near Memphis Missouri in Scotland County.

This lake and park are operated by the City of Memphis in cooperation with the Missouri Department of Conservation. We stopped in Memphis for gas and then were quiet delighted upon arriving at Lake Showme. We really wanted to camp in the free spot on the corner and put our hammock up between the two trees on the water's edge, but had to make the tough choice to make as much distance in our day and camp elsewhere. We did sit down for a picnic lunch in that space. I would have liked to have kayaked on that lake as well. We did take time to drive around the entire park and it felt like it was a clean and well maintained place. This visit was a sweet surprise on our trip itinerary.

I had to stop in the middle of the street in Memphis, Missouri, to get a photo of this car coming out of a building. That is not something you see every day.

Right here to the right, as seen in the above video, is a place with a sign that says "free camping" and we really wanted to camp here, but knew if we did, we would not make it to all of our other destinations. We spied two trees perfect for a hammock and almost spent a little time here hanging around, but decided not to.

This is the view of the lake as we were crossing the road on the other side of the lake.

He said he just had to dip his feet in the water.

This map shows the blue arrow marker where he dipped his feet in the water, which is across the lake from the main entrance.
