Buffalo Rock State Park

Buffalo Rock State Park (link 2) is located at 1300 N 27th Rd, Ottawa, LaSalle County, Illinois. Across the street was I&M Canal Access area and we were curious but did not have time to visit there. We did read up on the canal and learned that it is a transportation canal built along the Illinois River to Lake Michigan in Chicago (hence the I and the M) that has a bike trail alongside of it. I compared it possibly that that of the Katy Trail in Missouri. Starved Rock State Park and Matthiessen State Park and Illini State Park and Buffalo Rock State Park are all very near each other in Illinois, between St. Louis and Chicago along I-55, and we visited all four on the weekend of May 12 through 14, 2023.

You can visit three buffalo living in a fence in area while at the park or hike on several trails. While we were there electric bike rentals with Adventur-E-Bike Rental were available in the parking lot and we had a great time riding around the summit top of Buffalo Rock.

This shows how close the parks are to one another. There is so much to do in this area.

The buffalo are in an enclosed area and you can walk all the way around the fence.

We really enjoyed our bike ride. I was glad that they had a pull-along trailer. Even though it was meant for children to sit in, our dogs are small and they sat right on the seat as well.

We did not hit all the trails because we were not sure about the bikes going on them, but we did go all the way around the ridge top of the rock (Buffalo Rock) and you can stop to look out over the Illinois River.

They are so cute! My brakes or something was squeaking a lot on my bike, but hopefully he will fix it for the next person.

There was something in the distance that looked intriguing, but the sign by the trail said keep out. Hubby went past the sign and I had to yell at him to stop breaking the law and he did come back. This is located at the loop at the end of the trail right before you come back to go the other direction around the rock.

When we got back, the buffalo had come to the front of the park.
