Lancaster City Lake Conservation Area

Continuing on our journey on May 20, 2023, we next traveled to Lancaster City Lake Conservation Area, which is maintained by the City of Lancaster in cooperation with the Missouri Conservation, located in Schuyler County. Department. Somehow twice during our trip we did pass by the Archangel Access, but I did not stop for a photo or video because it is a parking space to put your boat into the water along a busy stretch of road, but I thought I would mention that we saw it. We did get out and take a walk down the dam and over to the other side of the Lancaster Lake and enjoyed our visit. I saw some redwing blackbirds again playing in the tree and for as long as I have lived and never seen them, I have seen them many times in recent weeks. I think they are my new favorite birds because of how they swoop, play, and sing.

I was a little confused by the map on the Missouri Conservation App as it seemed there was another location for this lake, but we decided to conserve time and did not look for the other location near a country club. It looks to be at the other end of the lake and there is a pit toilet there. It showed a pit toilet where we were but we never saw it. We also noted the well mown areas around the lake and wondered how far one could hike about. This park seemed to be very well maintained.

This is the road around the lake which we decided to take a stroll rather than drive.

We walked down the dam side of the lake as well.

This is the dam. It sure is close to the top and I wondered what it was like when flowing over.

There were a pair of red wing blackbirds in that tree playing.
