Union School House, near Hagarville, Arkansas

Union School House is located at 418 Co Rd 4670, Hagarville, Arkansas, in the Ozark-St. Francis National Forest.

The building is 1 1/2 stories, and we were able to climb the stairs to see the room up top in the attic. There are two school rooms on the main level. The school was built in1928 and 1929 to replace a previous structure that was destroyed by fire. The first building was built in 1886. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2011.

It was evident that local folks in the Mt. Levi community care a lot about this place, out in the middle of the forest, spending many hours keeping it up well and mowing the grounds. There was also a museum inside. The furniture was old as well and there was chalk available for us to leave our mark behind which was kind of fun.

It is free and open to the public, but donations help with the maintenance.

We turned off of Highway 123 onto County Road 1004, aka TransAmerica Trail. Watch the above video for more.

We turned onto County Road 4670 and crossed the Little Piney River.

Here we are paused at the river to first make sure the crossing seemed safe.

I was in the truck watching the four men discuss it and the scene gave me a little bit of delight.

The first truck decides to hang to the left a little bit as it crosses.

All went safe so now everyone can cross.

Here is a photo of my truck getting ready to cross.

I took this photo because I love the "little mountains" that to me describe the Ozarks and make me feel at home.

This is the room to the right looking through the doorway after first entering. There is a stage-like area at the back and to the right of that is the doorway to go to the attic.

This is the room to the left after you enter and I just loved the light from the windows. I could imagine being a child in this room with that view as I studied. I sure wish my work space today had windows like that.

Hubby had to test one of the desks.

Midwest Loan aka Lone Peak was written on the board to represent our four campers. Someone did not spell it right! lol

KB 4/25/2026 CB was written by our hubby which is our initials.

I went back and got a photo of the room when it was empty.

Outside across the road was this well water pump. We tested it and it still works!

How cool is that!
