New Madrid, Missouri

Most people have heard of the New Madrid Fault Line, especially if you life in Missouri. This fault extends 150 miles and goes into 5 states. It's that line where a big earthquake is most likely to happen and damage would be felt into many states. While we were there to visit the Hunter-Dawson State Historic Site, we decided to take a short tour of the town. It was a cold and icy and windy day on February 4, 2023, so our exploring was limited. In addition, we had other places to be. We went into the museum, but it was $5 a person and we decided we did not have time to watch their presentation and go through the museum, but the lady was kind to chat with us. In the winter of 1811 and 1812, there was a huge earthquake and the Mississippi River ran backwards. I am sure you can learn so much about this history in the museum.

Well this was fun! New Madrid has really done a great job building a driving and trail path along the Mississippi River. There is a boardwalk too.

This sign is funny.

The museum.
