Old St Vincent's Catholic Church

St. Vincent De Paul Church is a historic location in Cape Girardeau at 131 South Main Street. In 1821, priests began making visits to settlers in the area. By 1833, the land where the church stands today was obtained. The cornerstone for the church was laid in April 1838. In 1850 the church was destroyed by a tornado and the construction of the present church bgain in 1851 and was finished in 1853. The church tower was struck twice by lightning and destroyed in 1912. The building was added to the National Register in 1982. The above photo was take in 2019 during snow.

2010

In 2010, the photography group I was participating in arranged an event to take photos inside the church.

The church is across the street from the Red House in Cape Girardeau, so you can visit both at the same time.

There is a spanish building nearby. I believe it is also now a church.
