Spoonauger Falls at Burrells Ford Recreation Area

Although not as devastated as the previous hike in the same area, Spoonauger Falls at Burrells Ford Recreation Area near Mountain Rest, South Carolina, the same location as the King Creek Falls we had just visited, but a different parking area. We visited on June 29, 2025.

Here is the map at the park. The falls were a disappointment because it was covered in downed trees. There was a river that the trail ran along which was a lovely place to sit for a spell.

This shows the location in South Carolina in the mountains in the northern area of the state near North Carolina.

The trail was easy and nice.

This show how the workers dealt with the destruction of Hurricane Helene of September 2024. Most forest area workers prefer to leave the damaged trees so as to not upset the ecological system of the forest, so they cut huge chunks out of the fallen trees so that the path can be walked through.

Yes, that is the falls behind the fallen trees. I hope they clear some of this debris away eventually. We really could not see the falls.

The Chatooga River was really nice though! There are several places to take a short side-trip off the trail to enjoy the river.

We sat for a while and enjoyed the view.

Here is a screen shot of the map on my phone where we were located.
