Point Park (Chickamauga & Chattanooga National Military Park), Lookout Mountain

It is fun to be visiting the same places Grandpa visited. When I went on July 3, 2025, I did not remember that he had been here. Point Park on Lookout Mountain seems to be just part of a larger Chickamauga & Chattanooga National Military Park.

My Grandpa visited here on February 4, 1993, and there is a separate page for his visits in Tennessee with the older videos here. For Point Park, it begins at 2:47 minutes on the below video.

I've learned to take note of who manages historic sites because there is importance when it is a national park.

We did not learn too much about the battle here, mostly enjoying the great outdoor experience at the park, but we did gain some concept. I took photos of the information kiosks to read later.

The gates of Point Park (below) were constructed in 1904 and modeled after the US Army Corps of Engineers "castle" insignia.

See what I mean about the great outdoors? Look at the views! That is the Tennessee River winding around several bends in the view below.

We walked around the Confederate Troop memorial of Lookout Mountain and read the writings.

This is the path that brought us to the overlook where a battle was fought and the entrance to the museum.

The Battle of Missionary Ridge happened here.

We really enjoyed reading about the Battle Above the Clouds. We could imagine the activity that went on here many years before as we stood here.

We looked at the signs and found the things in the distant view.

This park is very well done with lots to read as you walk around. It is worth the trip to visit this park as it cannot be done too quickly as there is so much to see and learn.

This is the view as we were leaving of the entrance in the distance.
